Fishing Show

I went to the London Boat Fishing and Leisure Show yesterday. I arrived at approximately 10:30 AM and was very surprised by the parking lot. It was busting at the seams. The show only started at 10 AM. I stayed for about 2 hours walking around to most of the booths and drooling over several fishing and leisure boats. I chatted with several strangers while at the show. Most of the fun conversations were with marina operators. I would like to get "More Fun" (aka - my relic, quote: "piece of crap boat" - brother-in-law, father-in-law) out to other waters besides just Wildwood Conservation Area this year. I enjoy Wildwood but do miss river running of the wonderful Saint John River and enjoy exploring new places.

Back on topic....the $10 admission fee is a bit of a money grab. Somebody is making some serious cash. Despite my displeasure for the high entrance fee, I nabbed some serious savings (and didn't really spend a whole lot! The wife would be proud). My purchases consisted of: salted baits (grubs, worms), crankbaits, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, leaders, hooks, and a pair of fishing gloves. They will be a nice addition to my collection of other fishing gear. I am set for the season.

There were MANY hunting and fishing outfitters, guides and camping/lodging booths set-up. I picked up a mitt full of maps and advertisements of places to go boating, fishing and camping. I would love to spend a week or more vacation somewhere north of North Bay some summer. It would remind me of a summer spent at Indian Lake (near Millville, NB) with family. There are many lakes, waterways and sites to see in Ontario, know doubt. I hear the fishing and scenery described up north as "awesome". Someday, I am looking forward to a guy's week long getaway up north. If I have to wait and raise my own fisherman (or fishergirl) before I go up, so be it.

Next time I am in Freddy Beach (my hometown), I will be sure to hook up with a friend and fish the Saint John River for bass. This friend is the brother-in-law of one of my best mates and he is a recreational fisherman just like me. Who knew it. I found out after connecting with him on Facebook. Crazy stuff, I know.

Hopefully I will get out fishing more this summer than I did snowmobiling during the past winter! I suspect fishing will be a regular pastime again this summer. As memories are created, fishing tales (real and lies) unfold, and warm weather is enjoyed, I hope and expect to at least occasionally blog about them (and sometimes include pictures!). One event I am really looking forward to is seeing my oldest brother this summer. He will be vacationing here in Ontario for a week. It should prove to be a fun time getting him out the boat.
